Château Latour - Bordeaux Selection (Kwestie van Smaak)

Château Latour logo

One of the 5 original 1ier GCCs of the Médoc. It became a legendary name, and being one of the best wines in the world it helped Pauillac to establish its reputation. Since 1855 it has probably been the most constant of the big 5 and the last 20 years they have probably produced the best wines in their existence. 2009 is even considered to be one of the best wines in the world ever produced. It's very obvious: Latour is a quality label in itself! It is also one of the oldest domains of Bordeaux. The famous Tower (Le Tour de Saint-Maubert) on the label is actually a dovecote built in the 17th century and is not actually the original tower. For a long time, the domain was owned by the famous Ségur family. At one point they had with Lafitte and the later Mouton Rothschild 3 of the 5 1ier Crus in their possession ... and also Calon Ségur! After many changes, the domain has been managed by Frederic Engerer since 1995. They have never produced better wines. Since 2012, it has also been decided not to sell the wine in "scoop", but to wait until they think that the wine is worth coming to the market. This means that 2011 is the last year that will be available for the time being, 2012 is not expected to arrive before 2022. Latour can count on different terroirs in the appellation of Pauillac. Over the last 20 years, merlot's share has grown and the vineyard is now being converted to Biodynamic agriculture. This is applicable to more than 60% of the domain.
